Indulge in the pleasures of an intricate country

Travel Inspiration

In this issue, we have put together the best experiences we had in Cuba. You will find articles about the best beaches of Cuba – which for us are the ones without the all-inclusive hotels – but also about the old lady of the Caribbean, Havana, where the fascinating colonial architecture and the old-timers will take you on a time trip to the fifties. We also invite you to join us on a trip to the countryside, where the bizarre rock formations, known as the Mogotes, create the unique landscape of Viñales. This issue reveals a country that you did not know!

Caribbean Feel

The Thrill of the Road

We invite you to cycle through the Eastern side of the island, where roads are ideal for cyclists because of the few traffic and to find out more about the Taínos, the indigenous people of the Caribbean, who are original from Baracoa. If like us, you prefer the motorbike to the bicycle, there are plenty of lovely roads in Cuba. Some will take you through the heart of the Escambray Mountains  or the iconic Sierra Maestra, while others extend along the coast.

Beautiful Encounters

Cubans love a good chat, therefore speaking some Spanish will help open the doors to Cuban intimacy. But don’t expect to get to know Cuban’s deepest thoughts on the first meeting – except of course, if you are talking about music or pelota (baseball). It takes time and trust to truly get to know Cubans’ feelings towards many sensitive subjects, such as politics…

The Indigenous Inheritance

In less than 100 years most of the indigenous people of the island – the Taínos – succumbed to the diseases brought by Europeans or were worked to death. A recent study on genetic ancestry discovered that a percentage of Cuban genes is still indigenous. More importantly, there’s a general approach towards a revival of the Taíno culture.
